Ricci Studio’s printed wallcoverings originate from Liane Ricci’s artwork and are digitally printed using UV gel inks. This process allows subtle variations in color, tone and detail to translate beautifully from the original artwork to an architectural scale.

The ground itself plays an important role in the finished design. Texture, brightness and surface quality influence the way color and detail appear, making the material part of the overall character of the wallcovering.

Ricci Studio’s hand-painted wallcoverings blur the distinction between decorative surface and fine art. Each project is individually executed by Liane Ricci in her North Carolina studio, using water-based acrylics, metallics and interior paints.

The work is created on a durable Type II vinyl wallcovering ground selected to provide a stable surface for hand-applied finishes. Color, gesture and detail are built directly onto the material by hand, preserving the immediacy and character of the artist’s mark at architectural scale.

The finished surface is spongeable and should be cared for as fine art on the wall. Gentle dusting is recommended, and abrasive cleaning, harsh cleaners and heavy water use should be avoided.

Hand-painted designs are available on a select, project-by-project basis.

For certain designs, the surface itself becomes part of the artwork.

Ricci Studio may incorporate dimensional materials and hand-applied techniques to build texture, depth and movement directly onto the wallcovering ground. Fiber paste, for example, is an artist-grade medium that can be applied by palette knife and layered with paint to create a tactile surface that cannot be achieved through printing alone.

These specialty techniques are used selectively, according to the character of the artwork and the needs of the project.

Every wallcovering ground brings its own qualities of texture, color and performance. Materials are selected with both the artwork and its intended environment in mind.
