About

Liane Ricci is an artist and designer whose work moves fluidly between painting, pattern, surface and object. As founder of Ricci Studio, she brings an artist’s eye to the interior, creating expressive wallcoverings, paintings and one-of-a-kind pieces shaped by a lifelong curiosity for color, material and craft. Based in the mountains of Western North Carolina, Liane’s multidisciplinary work has been exhibited nationally and recognized with honors including the Luxe RED Award and Interior Design’s Best of Year Award.

“I believe in letting curiosity lead, and giving an idea the freedom to become what it wants to be.”

A Creative Life

Liane Ricci began exhibiting her paintings while still in high school, with her first show at a coffee shop in New Haven, Connecticut. She went on to study at the Hartford Art School at the University of Hartford and the Fashion Institute of Technology, as well as at the Art Students League of New York. Her professional exhibition career began in Wilmington, North Carolina, where her work was first shown at St. John’s Museum of Art, followed by her first solo exhibitions at Bauhaus Gallery in downtown Wilmington.

By the early 2000s, her work had found its way to Brooklyn, where she exhibited in Red Hook and Williamsburg as those neighborhoods were emerging as centers of New York’s independent art scene, including participation in Ladyfest East and exhibitions at the Williamsburg Art & Historical Center. Her work later reached galleries and art fairs across the country, including exhibitions with Kathryn Markel Fine Arts in New York and George Billis Gallery in Los Angeles, as well as appearances at art fairs in New York, Miami, San Francisco and Los Angeles. In 2006, Liane participated in the inaugural exhibition of Susan Eley Fine Art in New York, beginning a 20-year creative relationship with the gallery that continues today.

During her years living and working in Los Angeles, Liane began translating her fine-art practice into textiles, working professionally as a textile designer in West Hollywood. In 2016, a trip to Vittorio Veneto, Italy, to study fresco painting became a turning point. The experience sparked a fascination with the idea of the wall itself becoming the artwork, rather than simply a place to hang it. She began creating the designs that would eventually become her first wallcovering collection and lay the foundation for Ricci Studio.

Now based once again in the mountains of North Carolina, Liane brings decades of painting, experimentation and design into the evolving world of Ricci Studio. Her artwork is held in the permanent collection of the U.S. Department of State Art Bank.

A Creative Practice

At the heart of Liane’s work is a dedication to remaining true to her own creative voice. Over the years, she has developed a meditative art practice that helps her move beyond conscious thought and expectation, creating space for intuition, curiosity and discovery to lead the process. That practice became the foundation of The Artful Being Method, an approach Liane has gone on to share with others as a way of accessing a more intuitive and deeply personal relationship with creativity.
